When idealised emotions and resolved relationships with the self and others fall apart, I linger in that break to explore what resists clarity.

I begin to navigate this terrain through symbols and personal myths, tracing the contours of an inner landscape. I am interested in how we make sense of transitions that arrive without instruction, rites of passage without clear markers. I am particularly drawn to the writings of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, and her use of myth and folklore as a way of locating direction within uncertainty. The idea of a “river beneath the river” stays with me –– a current that exists below the visible, accessed through acts of making, repetition, and sustained attention. My practice is a search for that current underneath. And my processes move between structure and intuition.

In my paintings, this takes the form of everyday intimacy between lovers and friends, held in suspension. Figures come close, but something remains withheld. Connection and distance sit side by side. These are moments that do not fully resolve, where inner worlds of the people I love slowly begin to surface.
